The Montessori Approach

The Montessori Method is at the heart of everything we do and we are committed to providing an outstanding, Montessori early years education for all learners; one which maximizes opportunities for young children to achieve their full potential and develop as happy, well – balanced individuals. Moreover, the quote by Dr. Maria Montessori; “Within the child lies the fate of the future,” drives our pedagogy and core values.

Our curriculum, the Montessori method enables hands on, self – directed learning opportunities, which are carefully prepared within a child – centered Montessori environment. Within the prepared environment, children have the freedom to make choices, develop independence and gain academic fluency. Authentic, natural resources which mirror real life and the child’s cultural identity will be offered.

Practitioners are aware of the sensitive periods a child goes through and respond with appropriate opportunities, materials and activities the child requires to fulfil the sensitive period. The Montessori Method promotes learning through the senses. Therefore, a range of Sensorial materials and activities will be included.

All classes will have the opportunity to take part in activities such as Role Play, Block Play, Music & Art & Craft as part of the Weekly Schedule as well as the Montessori Programme.

Children in FS1 and FS2 will concentrate on mastering phonic word-building and reading through the Montessori phonetic approach. They progress from oral language development to understanding the connection between sounds and symbols. This exploration empowers children to express their own thoughts through writing and comprehend the ideas of others through reading. Children are captivated by the interplay of letters forming words, the sequence of words in a sentence, and even the grammatical structure within sentences.

Children naturally have mathematical minds. They have the capacity to reason, calculate and estimate. They are intensely conscious of quantity. The concrete Montessori mathematical materials allow these sensorial explorers to begin their mathematical journey from the concrete to the abstract, internalizing concepts of numbers, symbols, sequences, operations of the decimal system and memorization of basic facts.

Culture and Science

Through activities related to Geography (maps), Botany (parts of plants), Zoology (classification of animals), History(personal time-line) and Scientific experiments the child is introduced to Science and Culture, complementing their integral development and helping them adapt to the world.
